Wondering why anyone would want to change the location of their data file? Well, for security reasons of course. You don’t want to lose out that data stored in the .pst file of your email client. And with Outlook settings, it is possible.
How to move your data file using Outlook settings
The first step in using Outlook settings to change the location of your .pst file is to select the ‘Tools’ menu and then the ‘Account Settings’ option. Now, push the ‘Data Files’ tab and select the file you wish to move. In case your Outlook connects to only one account, you will have only one data file displayed. If not, the file that you want is likely to show ‘Default’ next to it in the ‘Comment’ column.
Now, choose ‘Open Folder’ in which the correct file that you want is automatically selected. That’s how Outlook settings will make the process simpler. All you have to do now is exit Outlook and drag and drop the data file to any place you desire.
Nothing can make the process easy other than Outlook settings
Now that you have removed your .pst file using Outlook settings, it’s time to move to your preferred location. Open Outlook and you will be informed that the needed data is missing. Just hit ‘Ok’ to open the dialog box. Navigate to the location you moved the data file to. Using Outlook settings, open the file by selecting it. When prompted to restart, simply click ‘Ok’ twice.
You have now successfully changed the location of your .pst file to your desired location. If not for the Outlook settings, the process wouldn’t have been so easy. All thanks to Outlook settings, this makes your Outlook experience less troublesome and more enjoyable.
